Government Relations

The Nebraska Cooperative Council’s government relations activities focus on advocating for policies that support and protect the interests of agricultural cooperatives at both the state and federal levels. The Council monitors legislation, engages with lawmakers, and works with regulatory agencies to ensure that cooperative voices are heard in the policymaking process. By staying actively involved in government affairs, the Council helps shape laws and regulations that affect cooperative taxation, governance, and business operations. These efforts are crucial for Council members, as they help maintain a fair and competitive environment for cooperatives, ensure long-term sustainability, and allow members to focus on serving their farmer owners and rural communities effectively.

The Council is a member of and coordinates with the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives (NCFC) on federal issues; a member of the National Agricultural Retailers Association; and coordinates with federal and state government affairs professionals of the NCC regional cooperative members in the service of its cooperative membership. Council President, Rocky Weber, is a member of the NCFC Executive Council and actively participates in its Government Affairs and Legal Tax and Accounting Committees. Weber is a member, and past President of, the National Council of State Cooperative Councils.
